STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. DUNSHA, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM A. MURRAY, OF SAME PLACE.
VAPOR-BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 240,981, dated May 3, 1881.
Application filed March 14, 1881. Nb model.)
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. DUNSHA, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor-Burners, which are fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation having the interior arrangement shown by dotted lines. Fig.
2 is a perspective view, showing opposite of Fig. 1.
The nature and objects of thcinvention will fully appear from the subjoined description, when considered in connection with the accompanyiug drawings.
A is a vapor-generating chamber, consisting of a double elbow having a depending arm, a, provided with a socket, a", for a needle-valve, B, the jet-orifice being located at the side of said arm a and directed toward the open end ot'a curved conduit, O, leading to the mixingchamber D. The plate E, on which the pert'orated cap or dome sits, is attached to the elbow A at the side, and the lower or open end ofthe conduit O is supported by a small post, 0.
The generator A, with its depending arm a and socket (t the conduit 0 and post 0, and
the plate E, are cast in one piece, the chamber in Aand the bore in the conduit 0 being cast 0 with a core, by which means the same are rendered cheap and simple in construction. The
said chamberA is attached by an upright pipe (shown in dotted lines) to the main pipeleadin g from the fount.
The perforated cap or dome D is of the usual construction.
Underneath the depending arm a of the gen-. erator A is attached a heater-cup, g, provided with a lip extending under the open end of the conduit 0, for a purpose hereinafter shown.
' runs back.
The operation of this burner is as follows: In the first place, to startthe burner, open the jet-orifice by withdrawing the needle-valve and allow a small quantity of gasoline to escape, which will flow into the cup 9 below, the lip on said cup being designed to catch any tluid which may be injected into the conduit as it Having supplied the cup with a sufficient quantity, the jet-orifice is closed, and the gasoline is burned for heating the gener- 5o ator, which being heated, the orifice is again opened and the vapor issues into the conduit O, thence into the mixing-chamber, and is burned at the perforations in the cap or dome.
It will here be noticed that the jets of flame issuing from the side of the dome at the side next to the generator impinge against the said generator, and thereby keep up the vaporization without detracting from their usefulness otherwise; neither is any other flame required for heating the generator.
This makes a very cheap, economical, and efficient vapor-burner.
Having described my invention, I claim The herein-described vapor-burner, eonsisting of the double-elbow vapor-generator A, having the depending arm a, provided with the socket a and needle-valve B, for controlling jet-orifice, the heater-cup g, with its lip, the curved conduit O, supporting the plate E, and perforated dome D,the said plate E being connected with the elbow A, and the lower open end of the, conduit 0 connected to elbow A by post 0, all constructed and operating substantially as shown and described.
. WM. H. DUNSHA.
