Hello everybody,

I've got a chile-plant whose seeds I got some years ago as a present, from a guy bringing them from Romania.
Grown outdoor (I did it in summer 2006) the plant becomes 1,20 meter tall and is very prolific.
The pods are tasty (fine herb, a taste I love) during few seconds but then the heat becomes so big, that I'm not able to feel any taste any more!  :o
I have no idea which sort of a chile it is.

Can someone identify it (see pictures)?

Mursu

don't know what it is, but must say that sure is VERY pretty one! 8)

Fatalii

Definitely C. annuum, Cayenne type with upward growing pods. The heat level is definitely piercing!

Well... not so precise perhaps, you could call it large thai type as well because of the upward growing pods. :)

Jah

But real Thais are frutescens and their fruits grow in clusters :)
But I'd say this is cayenne type too :) And even it looks a bit similar to that "incorrect" Naga Jolokia that also known as Indian PC-1 Who knows if it came from India?

Its Ardei Iute (c.Frutescens ) it could be any of a large and ever expanding variety that needs a good eye,Precise measurements,Pictures and collating as much information as possible to get what it is..J your good at that lol  :D ;)

Hi, Chilicutter,

the pods from Romania are longer and have a "horn" form.
...
and I've searched the Internet ans found this:

Here is the link to the description:
http://www.chileplants.com/search.asp?ProductCode=CHIHAN&ChileForm=&SizeID=&SearchMode=simple&LengthID=&WidthID=2&HeightID=&OrientationID=&FoliageID=&FleshID=&UseID=&Color=&Location=&Keyword=&HeatID=&TypeID=&DeterminancyID=&CategoryID=1&SeasonID=&NewProduct=&Letter=&SearchButton=Pressed

This Hanoi red seems to be very resemblant with "Ardeiul iute".
Anyway, no mather what my Romanian type ist, it tastes great!!! :-D

I've got a plant that looks very much the same growing second year now. Started my chiligrowing with that plant. Got the seeds for it from a dried chili brought from Hungary. The chilis have a strong Bell-pepper aroma and the heat is huge and very piercing. I'll link some photos when I take some, got some raw chilis on it too. I don't know the name though, I believe it's just a nameless hungarian c.annuum that they have bred on their own.

@Jah
You wrote that Thai is realy a C.frutescens. I heard this opinion from few sources too but what do You think it's still marked as C.annuum?
I know that's chili varietes are not clearly discovered and divided, but I'm curious why did You allocate Thai as C.frutescens not C.annuum.
Cheerrs!

Jah

Oh, that won't be too simple because of language.
Some researchers say that frutescens is a part of annuum, but the properties that may help to differ Thai from the "real-deal" annuums are:
1. Almost toothless calyx
2. Erect clustered floral buds, not erecting fruits after set as some annuums do
3. Greenish corona and blueish stamens (very light but noticeable)
4. Symmethrical stemed bush whose branches look like broom
Compare Thai with Tabasco which is frutescens too and you'll see how similar they are.

Thx, nice summary. I'm also consider that C.frutescens is a part of C.annuum.
