Aug 20, 2015 Takahashi Hisanobu, Nomiya Tomomi and Togawa Kiyaharu REAL Written and Illustrated by: Takehiko Inoue Original Run: 1999 - ongoing Number of Volumes currently: 14 Where to read: http://www.mangareader.net/real A nice mix of sports manga with slice-of-life sprinkled in. Focuses on a topic of much stigma, disability. Quite confronting and brilliant at the same time. From the author that brought us two highly acclaimed series' in Slam Dunk and Vagabond. @AnimeSXN if you want a manga that is varied and emotionally investing, I suggest this one. The only annoying downside is that the series is still unfinished with only 80 chapters completed so far.
Aug 20, 2015 Gonna check it out as soon as I catch up to the stuff I'm reading currently, it looks super interesting and I'll also cry like a little girl while reading it too
Aug 21, 2015 I guess one reason why it resonates with me so much is the fact that I also participate in wheelchair sports and the way the author portrays the life of an individual with a physical disability is almost spot on. I can easily relate to Togawa's burning desire to succeed in sports, his temperament is just like mine. I can see the frustration that Takahashi goes through and for Nomiya I can understand what it's like to be coasting through life. So it's probably obvious why I may overrate this series.
