Last night, while watching Wuthering Heights with Jonny, I finished my February Lady Sweater. Without even weaving in the ends, I immediately jumped up and put it on. It looked pretty frumpy. There was funny armpit bunching and it was definitely on the small side. I poured my hopes into the washing and blocking. I prepared to console myself with the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed knitting this sweater, and used stash yarn that I bought on super sale years ago. I shouldn’t expect too much from my first attempt to knit myself a sweater.
BUT OH MY GOODNESS, THIS SWEATER ENDED UP BEING PERFECT!
I hope that didn’t come across like prideful bragging. It wasn’t meant to be. I am just a little bit happy.
I coaxed Jonny outside today for a very serious fashion shoot to document this very important first in my little knitting world.
(Begging Jonny to stop what he’s doing-he was being so dorky ridiculous.)
Trudy has no respect for hand knits and actually hooked a claw in an eyelet. No damage done though.
p.s. I typed up extensive Ravelry notes here.
I knit this with Cascade 220 and used cedar buttons from Wooly Moss Roots.
I must say that the Cascade ended up being a very pleasant surprise. It makes a lovely garment.
p.p.s. We were watching this version of Wuthering Heights, but I’ll forever love Lord Laurence Olivier because of this one.
(and obviously, Jonny took all these photos.)

You did a great job on that sweater, and it looks wonderful on you! I’ve been knitting for almost 20 years and have made myself a dozen or so sweaters and have never been happy with any of them, although I’m usually always happy with items I make for others. Congrats!
I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and absolutely love all the photos you post of your kids. I’m always inspired by your many talents and projects. I’ve felt bad about never commenting – but now I have!

The sweater is beautiful! I’m going to have to save that pattern for when I am more confident in my knitting. I also enjoyed that version of Wuthering Heights, I haven’t seen that other version but Wuthering Heights is one of my favorites.

Oh it came out beautiful!!! This has been in my queue for way too long. As soon as I finish my self imposed “no buying yarn until I’ve knit the stash down” this will be the first project I buy yarn for!
Nadja says
Ohmigosh Ginny! It is gorgeous! Do you think that I, as an “intermediate beginner” could handle it, or should I wait? What was tricky about it, if anything? I NEED TO MAKE THIS SWEATER!
Fabulous knitting…I am so inspired!
Ginny says
Nadja, you could totally knit this sweater. The trickiest part was deciding what modifications I wanted to make-and I made a lot of them….
But the actual knitting is easy. I used stitch markers between every lace repeat so I wouldn’t have to worry about paying perfect attention.
Rachel says
You are beautiful, Ginny! And your new sweater is so lovely. No prideful boasting whatsoever, a sweater for you is an exciting accomplishment. 🙂

I love it! Wish I had the patience for knitting just so I could have one for myself 🙂
