Perioral Dermatitis

What is perioral dermatitis? This rash is an inflammatory skin reaction that appears around the mouth and may reach the nose area. It looks like red bumps and can have a scaly appearance, too. Those with perioral dermatitis may report itchiness and a slight burning sensation. The cause of this rash is often linked to bacterial or fungal infections, drooling, birth control pills, using topical steroids, and a few other potential instigators. The good news is that, with treatment, this rash type can improve. If you suspect you have perioral dermatitis, check in with your family doctor or dermatologist for a diagnosis and a treatment plan.
