Martta Wendelin is an internationally recognised and award-winning daycare centre in Hyrylä, Tuusula. The centre provides space for up to 200 children in a space that Finnish AFKS architects specifically designed with a focus on well-being and safety of children.

When children spend most of their day indoors, it matters that their daycares are an inspiring and healthy environment for growth. The Martta Wendelin Centre makes excellent use of natural light and the park landscape to create an ideal learning environment, both stress-free and sustainable.

But what makes the centre really stand out is its high specification and efficient use of wood and detailing.

Sustainable Sylva™ CLT by Stora Enso Walls was used both on the interior and exterior for structural purposes but also to shape the building's overall look and feel.

The Swan Ecolabel was awarded to the daycare centre in 2022 for the building's low energy consumption, excellent indoor air quality, and reuse and recyclability of building elements.

The Finlandia Prize for Architecture was in awarded in 2023 for high-quality Finnish architecture that highlights the cultural value and increases well-being.
