Central Ohio is home to 3 Level One trauma centers

Only one Level One trauma center exsists in the state of Nevada.

It is the University Medical Center in Las Vegas. Hospitals prepare for mass trauma events at least once or twice a year.

First responders and medical teams that were on the scene after Sunday night’s mass shooting described what they saw as “war scene.”

There are three Level One trauma centers in Columbus: The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, and Nationwide Children's Hospital. Trauma teams at all three would work together in a coordinated response to a crisis.

All three of the Level One centers work with the Central Ohio Trauma System which would lead in a mass casualty situation.

It coordinates the system and plans to respond to a crisis.

An estimated 860,000 people live in Columbus -- compared to 632,000 in the city of Las Vegas. The number does not include visitors to the Vegas strip. The city hosted nearly 43 million visitors last year.
