Hopkins Public Schools has completed the work on a new bus canopy for the transportation department. In addition to this new structure, they have also received three electric buses and installed the charging infrastructure to support them.
In November of 2022, the Environmental Protection Agency announced a $1 billion grant for school districts across the country to purchase electric school buses. Hopkins was one of 25 Michigan districts selected during the first round of the grant.
The three new buses replace three diesel powered buses and will help Hopkins to lower the cost of operations in the transportation department.
