Today the 90-year-old Robert Mugabe, President of the African nation of Zimbabwe, took a bit of tumble as he was walking off a stage in Harare, the country's capital.Normally this sort of thing is no big deal. But Mugabe, who has ruled as essentially an antidemocratic strongman for 35 years, didn't want anybody to know about how frail he was. So his aides really, really wanted the world to know he didn't fall.
“Nobody has shown any evidence of the president having fallen down because that did not happen,” said Jonathan Moyo.
“What happened is that the president tripped over a hump on the carpet on one of the steps of the dais as he was stepping down from the platform but he remarkably managed to break the fall on his own. I repeat that the president managed to break the fall.... And to be honest with you even Jesus, let alone you, would have also tripped in that kind of situation.”
