This year 200,000 refugees, mainly from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, have arrived on Kos island. Every night, they leave the turkish coast near Bodrum on dinghies and unseaworthy boats, risking their lives trying to reach the first european beach. 
On this small Aegean island refugees are often blocked for weeks, waiting for the papers to continue their journey. Many of them are staying in an abandoned hotel on the outskirts of the city of Kos: without food, water and electricity they can only count on assistance of humanitarian organizations.
