The United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) established the International Day of Peace in 1981. The General Assembly voluntarily voted to devote a day to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace. The United Nations initially designated the third Tuesday in September to celebrate the World Peace Day in 1981. However, later in 2002, the date of World Peace Day was then shifted and fixed to September 21.
