Elena Vesnina overpowers Dominika Cibulkova to set up meeting with Serena Williams
Updated 05/07/2016 at 19:18 GMT
Elena Vesnina will face Serena Williams in her first Wimbledon semi-final after swatting aside 19th seed Dominika Cibulkova 6-2 6-2 on Court One.
The Russian, ranked 50 in the world, had far too much class for an opponent who was prepared to cancel her wedding on Saturday if she had reached the final.
She will not have that problem with Vesnina proving too hot for the Slovakian to handle.
"I am very surprised. It was like a dream came true," said Vesnina.
"I'm always thinking, I can do well in the grand slams.
"I was just waiting and waiting for this happen. But, of course, a semi-final is a big surprise for me."
Unseeded Vesnina will face defending champion Williams on Thursday for a place in the final.
Vesnina's power and accuracy on Wimbledon's Court One saw her comfortably ease through.
Vesnina is best known as a doubles specialist and has won two majors with Ekaterina Makarova, her opponent in the previous round.
Serena Williams defeated the other Russian in the last eight, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 6-4 6-4.
