Susan Coffey

Susan Rae (Roloff) Coffey, age 72, passed away on September 4, 2023.

She was born October 28, 1950 in Charles City, IA to Merle Edwin and Pauline Angela (Byrd) Roloff; the three day hospital stay gave Merle and Pauline a $75.00 hospital bill.

Sue attended and graduated from Charles City Public School, graduating in 1968, the year downtown Charles City was destroyed by a tornado. She attended two years at Cedarville College, in Cedarville, Ohio, a Christian Liberal Arts College. Sue then transferred to the University of Northern Iowa to finish her college degree, teach private piano lessons; and to live closer to her family. During her senior year at UNI, Sue met her future husband, Ron Coffey.

When Sue was working her first job, after college graduation, she factory-ordered a new car exactly as she wanted it, a 1974 Dodge Charger. Sue loved muscle cars!

As a young girl in Sunday School, Sue was led to Jesus Christ by her Sunday School Teacher. At that time, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior; she walked faithfully with Jesus guiding her all her life.

Sue and Ron were married February 25, 1978, in Charles City, IA by her Dad. She loved her job as wife and partner. Sue started teaching piano lessons, using the Suzuki method about 1979 and thoroughly enjoyed and loved every one of her students. Some even looked to her as a second mom. Sue successfully taught piano lessons for fifty years, at one time having as many as sixty students in one week.

She is survived by her husband, Ron; brother, Marston Val Roloff; nephews, Jason and Joshua Roloff and their families; as well as many friends and acquaintances.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, September 08, 2023.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM at Open Door Baptist Church on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Burial will be Monday, September 11, 2023 at Orchard Cemetery in Orchard, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to Open Door Baptist Church or Cedarville University.
