About us
The Group of European Municipalities with Nuclear Facilities (GMF) is a not-for-profit association of municipalities and associations of municipalities with nuclear facilities across European countries. Currently GMF is supported by municipalities with nuclear facilities from Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Finland, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Our primary objectives are: - to represent the views of its member local authorities at European level; - to seek to influence policy and strategy related to nuclear matters in Europe; - to ensure that safety, transparency and effective engagement in decision-making on nuclear matters (new build, operation, radioactive waste management, decommissioning) is respected; - to facilitate the exchange of information and experience among members regarding different aspects of living with nuclear energy (e.g. governance in radioactive waste, communication of nuclear issues, sustainable socio-economic development, etc).

💡 Inzichten van het ECA Congres in Tri-Cities 💡 Deze week heb ik als president van de Group of European Municipalities with Nuclear Facilities (GMF) samen met onze vicepresident en de burgemeester van Östhammar in Zweden Fabian Sjöberg het privilege gehad om het ECA congres bij te wonen. Een kernpunt dat continu naar voren kwam, is dat succes in nucleaire ontwikkelingen onlosmakelijk verbonden is met het respecteren en prioriteren van de belangen van lokale gemeenschappen. Tijdens mijn presentatie heb ik de kans gehad om onze aanpak in Borsele uit te lichten, waar we nauw samenwerken met de 'Borselse Voorwaarden' groep. Deze samenwerking illustreert perfect hoe essentieel lokale betrokkenheid is voor het slagen van onze projecten. Een groot compliment aan de ECA voor het congres dat erg goed georganiseerd was!
