⚡ The von Kármán Vortex Street⚡ At very rapid speeds (high Reynolds number), vortices break off turbulently, as seen here. In fluid dynamics, a Kármán vortex street (or a von Kármán vortex sheet) is a repeating pattern of swirling vortices caused by the unsteady separation of flow of a fluid around blunt bodies. It is named after the engineer and fluid dynamicist Theodore von Kármán, and is responsible for such phenomena as the "singing" of suspended telephone or power lines, and the vibration of a car antenna at certain speeds. Excellent simulation
I think it's most pronounced at moderate Reynolds numbers, something like 100-5000 if memory serves. Higher Re leads to more energy dissipated down to smallest Kolmogorov scales (where it is then diffused). The complex fractal-like interaction cascades to chaotic turbulence rapidly...
