Once in a while, an encounter reminds us of how small a world it is. And those moments stay with us. Finding a photo to capture the essence of my recent trip to Israel with Pfizer leaders has been a challenge. I finally settled on this one, standing with Pfizer’s CEO, Israel’s President Isaac Herzog, and Israel’s First Lady Michal Herzog. This was taken at the President’s Residence before sitting down to a memorable dinner. At first glance, the reason for choosing this photo may seem obvious, but it was the conversation in the moments prior that make this photo so special. My first cousin Soraya, an incredibly well-respected and accomplished woman, worked for Israel’s Office of the President for 37 years, spanning six presidencies. This includes her service to former President Chaim Herzog, father of the current President photographed here. My cousin Soraya asked me to send her regards to the current President, and I did when introduced. His face lit up as he called over his wife. He introduced me as Soraya’s cousin as she also smiled and nodded. Unprompted, they warmly gave condolences on the recent passing of Soraya’s husband and went on to tell me that they recently met Yoni, Soraya’s son. Yoni, a gifted creative soul, provides his talents in service to the Israeli Antiquities Authority. Only a few weeks prior, Yoni was hard at work restoring the beautiful mural you can see over the President’s left shoulder. This conversation was emblematic of the inviting and personal nature of connections made with my colleagues and family throughout my time in Israel. Israel is a small world. And that’s something I hold incredibly dear. #smallworld #pfecolleague
