💡StartCupER💡, the entrepreneurial support program of the #emiliaromagna region, has come to an end. Congratulations to Further, Highverter, and O-Damp winners of the 2023 edition! StartCup competitions have been around in Italy for more than two decades. Yet, evaluating their effectiveness is not an easy task. To contribute to both scholarly and policy debate, with GRETA SERPENTE, Rosa Grimaldi and Daniela Bolzani from the Department of Management - DiSA, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna and Sara Monesi and Silvia Falciasecca from #ArtER, we analyse longitudinal multi-level data to assess the effectiveness of the StartCup Emilia Romagna program. We focus on the 2017-2019 editions and we map the characteristics of the 249 applicants (100 accepted and 149 rejected) and the 131 companies they have founded. Heres's some highlights: 📌 30% of accepted has a Phd (vs. less than 10% of rejected) 📌 45% of accepted establish a firm (vs. less than 40% of rejected) 📌 35% of firms founded by accepted are innovative startups (vs. less than 15% of rejected) 📌 more than 70% of firms established by accepted are in ER (vs. less than 60% for rejected) 📌 more than 30% of founders who establish their firms in ER haven't studied in ER Want to know more?? 𝙱𝚛𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚕𝚊𝚗𝚍𝚜 𝚂𝚝𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚞𝚙 𝙻𝚎𝚊𝚐𝚞𝚎 The 4 Brightlands campuses, together with LIOF , Provincie Limburg and Universiteit Maastricht have launched a new initiative for start-ups in the Maastricht Region: the Brightlands Startup League. The Brightlands Startup league is “a complete support package that will help you boost your innovative product”. Entrepreneurs and burgeoning entrepreneurs can register online for one of a number of activities. For example, a one-on-one counselling session with an expert in the health, sustainability or digitalization industries who can gauge the stage your company or idea is at and discuss what steps could be made to grow or expand. There are also networking events on offer, and up to 10 masterclasses each year. All the activities take place in Limburg – mostly in the Maastricht Region – but applicants don’t have to be from Limburg to be able to take part in them.
