Real Madrid published the following announcement on MotoGP legend Angel Nieto.
The Real Madrid C. F. Board of Directors agreed today, the 13th September 2017, to award Ángel Nieto the shining gold insignia of the club as a posthumous title.

Angel Nieto passed away last August. He is a thirteen-time MotoGP world champion and a renowned Real Madrid fan. The Grada Fans also paid homage to the late Spanish champion during Real Madrid’s home match against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup. The Spanish government celebrated a tribute to Angel Nieto alongside his family last Wednesday.

Angel Nieto was one of the most accomplished motorcycle racers in the history of the sport, winning 13 World Championships and 90 Grand Prix victories in a racing career that spanned twenty-three years from 1964 to 1986. His total of 90 Grand Prix victories ranks him third only to the 122 by Giacomo Agostini, and the 115 for Valentino Rossi.
