Happy Birthday Cookie Monster!

Since Cookie Monster first uttered those sweet, sweet words -- "Me want cookie!" and "Om nom nom nom" -- people knew. They knew this was a man giant, furry blue creature that understood them; that represented everything that is good in the world. Or, at least, in the realm of sweet treats.

The beloved Sesame Street character celebrates the big 4-7 today (ironically it's also National Healthy Eating Day). It's hard to believe he's been reminding us how to spell "cookie" (it starts with a C, guys) and speaking to our cookie-loving souls for so long. (As Cookie Monster looks the same at age 47 as he did in the first episode of Sesame Street back in 1969, we're tempted to argue that constant cookie consumption must have anti-aging properties. In honor of Cookie Monster's birthday, we took a little trip down memory lane, looking back at some favorite moments with Martha and our pal. Like that time he helped Martha go through mail from viewers. Or when he got together with Martha to make cherry chocolate chunk cookies (seriously, me want cookie). Or the time when Martha had a full house and enjoyed a tea party with not just Cookie Monster, but Elmo, Grover, and Abby, too. Our favorite though is the time Cookie Monster got together with Martha to make pumpkin whoopie pies. Cookie Monster wasn't so crazy about the pumpkin cream cheese filling at first since he's more of a chocolate chip kind of guy, but he came around. And since 'tis the season for any and all things pumpkin, it's the perfect time to give this recipe a go.

As our favorite blue monster said to Martha "Enough with the pleasantries, where are the cookies?"
