If you have a stash of buttons hidden away in a drawer or sewing box, put them to good use with this trendy jewellery project. So simple to make, this stylish statement necklace will make a thoughtful gift or gorgeous addition to a spring/summer wardrobe!

You will need:

  • Buttons
  • Clasp
  • Jewellery wire
  • Scissors

To make:

1. Lay out your buttons in the order you want them. Secure a clasp to the end of a long piece of wire. The wire should be long enough for all three strands of the necklace. Thread each button on to the wire as if sewing it on. This will help it sit flat and not move around when worn. As you add each button, position them flat so they don't overlap.

2. Continue until you have one long, threaded strand. To finish this first strand, attach the other part of the clasp securely.

3. Add more buttons to the wire, making this strand a little longer than the first. Wrap the wire around the clasp, then repeat to finish the third, longest strand.

4. Complete by securing the wire to the end of the clasp then cut off any excess.
