Bonnie Fair Isle is an Overlay Mosaic Crochet Pattern

Fair Isle is a small Island located halfway between Orkney and Shetland, off the north coast of Scotland.

Traditional Fair Isle knitting has been practised for generations and combines a variety of colours with small geometric motifs.

As we are crocheters, it’s not easy to fully replicate Fair Isle knitting, but I have designed 21 small patterns so you can create your own Bonnie Fair Isle project.

Worked in the normal overlay row by row technique, this pattern allows you to create a completely unique blanket, just for you.

You can use all 21 patterns in order, or you can chop and change them about as you wish. You can use a few of them, removing some and repeating others. It’s entirely up to you.
This pattern is a great stash buster – so get raking about in your stash and have fun.

The PDF has 21 easy to read charts (with X’s for DCs) for each pattern included, and corresponding written instructions.

Two PDF’s are available - one using US terms and one using UK terms.

You can use any yarn and corresponding hook you like for this pattern, just remember a tighter tension is better for mosaic crochet.

If using Lion Brand Mandala, you will need approximately 7 skeins for the main body of the blanket (including a simple 3-row border)

Approx. 1100 grams

Between 3937 - 4156 yards (3600 - 3800 metres)

This will create a blanket approximately 110cm x 190cm (61” x 45”) with the border.

This is a long blanket, as I wanted it for laying on the sofa with and covering my toes.

You can of course create any size you want with any of the patterns.

This is a great beginner Mosaic crochet design, as the repeats are only 12 stitches and are very easy to crochet. You can make anything you want with these patterns, a hat, scarf, table runner, cushion, wall hanging, jumper. Anything you can think of.

I hope you enjoy creating your own Bonnie Fair Isle.

Please do share your creations online and tag #getyerhookon and #bonniefairislecrochet
