Runner’s World Review

The Ride does a bang-up job cushioning the heavy footfalls of larger runners. More firm than squishy, the mostly foam midsole soothes pavement pounding and brings a little stability to long, slow runs while providing a bit of bounce for faster efforts. According to RW Shoe Lab tests, this version is notably softer and more flexible than the previous one. It's a good match (albeit a pricey one) for bigger runners looking for a well-cushioned shoe with a firm feel underfoot.

—Theodore Wismer, 50, Allentown

"The shoes were a bit heavy but took the pounding of the street very well."
—Derek Kraus, 24, East Lansing

We put each shoe through real-world usage and a battery of mechanical tests in our lab to provide you with objective — and exclusive — data. In addition to a shoe's weight, we measure sole thickness (everything that sits between your foot and the road), how well the foam cushions your stride, and the flexibility of the forefoot. All this is taken into account in our reviews of each shoe.
