Scots woke up to school closures and motorists were left stranded as the Met Office issued a yellow warning for snow and ice.
Sleet, hail and snow showers brought disruption to travel throughout Friday with Traffic Scotland reporting 5cm snow flurries crippling major routes including the M8, M77 and M74.
Minus temperatures will bring icy roads and pavements with hazardous conditions expected in many parts of the country with some public transport also affected.
The Met Office warning is in force until midday on Friday and covers Central Scotland, Tayside and Fife, south-west Scotland, Lothian and Borders, Strathclyde, Grampian and the Highlands.
It warns of a risk of icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, and says that snow showers are likely.
The warning states: "Winds will be gusty around heavier showers and there is also a risk of lightning strikes from isolated thunderstorms in some coastal districts."

A new weather warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office following snow flurries today.
Freezing conditions could soon turn slush to ice, wih people to watch out for icy patches forming on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
The Mt Office said: "Icy surfaces are possible for a time on Friday evening and overnight, leading to potentially tricky conditions."
