+1 on John Doe's suggestion of coolant but make sure that the coolant is pre-mixed and not a concentrate.

I also suggest you carry the spare headlamp bulbs and windscreen washer fluid (premix if possible. I've had good results with Sonax).

Just having extra/spare coolant, oil is not enough. You should also know how to replenish or replace them if necessary. Same goes for replacing a flat tyre with the spare wheel. Do check that the jack, wheel spanner, etc. are actually in the car! Also check the spare wheel has enough air!

I also suggest you keep the user manual with you. It can turn out to be suprisingly useful in case you are in trouble.

Tata Motors has sought to retain the 997 acre land bank at Singur, which was allotted to the car maker by the erstwhile Left government of West Bengal. Tata Motors, which originally intended to build the Nano at Singur, shifted base to Gujarat on the back of violent protests by locals at Singur, who opposed the land acquisition. The Sanand facility, set up at Gujarat has been operating at less than one fifth of its installed production capacity of 250,000 Nanos/annum.



Despite the low production, Tata Motors seems to have expansion plans for the Nano project, which is the reason being given by the car maker for the retention of the Singur land bank. The Nano's diesel variant, which will be introduced next year, is likely to boost volumes of the slow-selling hatchback. However, the increase in volumes might not be enough to warrant an additional production facility or expansion of the one at Singur.

Therefore, Tata Motors might be keen on retaining the Singur land bank for purposes other than the production of the Nano. Tata Motors has plans of building a hatchback to sit between the Nano and the Indica. Dubbed project Dolphin, this project could be kickstarted at Singur if Tata Motors does not face any more violence/opposition from those opposed to the car maker's Singur factory. Tata Motors could also use the Singur facility for manufacturing other cars, the details of which currently are sketchy at best.

Notably, the West Bengal government has been mired in a land tussle with another automaker, Hindustan Motors. Hindustan Motors' Uttarpara plant is prime real estate now and the automaker has been trying to redevelop/hive off chunks of this property, a move strongly opposed by the West Bengal government. It takes some serious guts to go back and claim that same piece of land which brought a lot of issues for TATA. How are they going to ensure there will be NO issues raised again by the people for that land?

Completed 660 Kms roundtrip to Kasauli last weekend. Nano did extremely well both on the highway as well as on the hills. Average for this trip was 22 kmpl. My confidence in Nano has only gone a few notches up!

We are looking at Nano 2013 as a city car - wife will be driving it - since we would like to retire our old Zen.

I understand power steering is still lacking - so only a test drive will clear that part, but is there a 2013 Nano official review or ownership thread somewhere?

The first page does not cover 2013 related updates.

Not sure if there's an ownership thread. As for a test drive the mechanicals remain the same. So the existing TD and ownership reports should still be good.

Also check out the Nano eMax - the CNG variant. It's much cheaper to run and only marginally costlier.

In Pune the cost difference between the top end petrol and top end CNG is around 40K. I am not sure if the thought of sitting over 2 large gas tanks is reassuring to anyone though...

I thought about the CNG version, only for extending the range. Not worth the extra price, and the sitting on top of the tanks+battery barrier.

In the east of Pune, there are no CNG gas stations. So, CNG is useless for us.

Someone mentioned that a new Nano is going to be out before March. I am wondering what comes in that one.
There is less body roll, less noise and many other improvements in the 2013 version. In that case a new official review should be done.
