Vera Zvonaerva has to cancel the Australian Open due to injury

It's not the days of the Australian Open organizers. Just a few days ago, Andy Murray announced that he would not celebrate his major comeback. On December 30th, Kei Nishikori was canceled. Now the organizers have announced via Twitter that Vera Zvonareva must also fit due to injury.

The 35-year-old Russian is suffering from an injury to the left wrist. This means that fans will have to wait for the former number two in the world to appear. Her last tournament was the French Open in May last year, where she already failed in the first round of qualification against Aliona Bolsova. It has also slipped back in the world rankings and is currently only in 80th place.

So far, the Australian Open has always been worth a trip for Zvonareva: twice she has been in the semi-finals, in 2012 she even won the title in doubles alongside Svetlana Kuznetsova. Zvonaerva was also allowed to breathe major final air in singles. In 2010, Zvonareva reached the final in Wimbledon as well as at the US Open - but she was unable to achieve the greatest triumph.

The Australian Open will take place in Melbourne from January 20 to February 2. Hoping for the tennis fans, Vera Zvonaerva will recover quickly.
