Miss Norway struck down with Covid hours before Miss Universe 2023 final as fans pray for Ida Hauan

MISS Universe contestant, Miss Norway, has reportedly tested positive for Covid-19 right before the finals of the beauty competition.

According to hosts, Jeannie Mai Jenkins and Olivia Culpo, Miss Norway 2022, Ida Hauan, couldn’t make it to the pageant’s coronation night because she’s currently “ill.”

On her Instagram account, Hauan confirmed that she had Covid.

“So…I was too unlucky to get Covid right befor [sic] the finals,” she wrote on her Instagram Story.

“It’s breaks my heart because I have been working so hard to get where I am today. But I already starting to feel better.

“Thank you so much to everyone who thinks about me today.”

A statement from the official Miss Universe Instagram account revealed that Hauan will be disqualified from the competition.

“Unfortunately, Miss Universe Norway @idahauan contracted COVID-19 and will no longer be competing this evening,” it read.

“The Miss Universe Organization and her fellow delegates are saddened to hear this news and are wishing her a speedy recovery.”

Some fans were upset to hear about the news, with on person writing on social media: “Um. How is she the ONLY ONE? Won’t there be others that may be exposed too?”

“Why not just let her go on stage with a mask? We need to learn to live with this virus already,” wrote another person.

“You guys make a drama for this girl again? Start from makeup and then covid? Go to hell.” wrote a third.

The news comes as the final 16 contestants were revealed including Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Laos, Australia, Haiti, South Africa, Portugal, Canada, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, USA, Spain, Venezuela, and India.

This year's selection panel is made up of all female professionals from a variety of fields, including sports, beauty, and music.

Out of the nearly 90 contestants in the pageant, the winner will be chosen by the selection committee.

New Orleans, Louisiana, is serving as the event's host city and can be watched live on the Roku channel now.

Telemundo is also airing its Spanish-language broadcast now.

The 71st Miss Universe winner will be crowned by last year's Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu.
