THIS incredible snap captures the moment the Beast from the East struck London this morning - shrouding the capital in a dense layer of ice and snow.

Londoners stood open-mouthed as the freezing blizzard brought traffic to a standstill and sent the mercury plunging to a Baltic -2c.

Up to eight inches of snow has blanketed much of the country today, with Brits shivering in -15C temperatures as the "wind chill factor" makes it feel colder than it has in 27 years.

The Met Office has now upgraded it's warnings to the "danger to life" zone with snow expected for the next four days.

Forecasters are predicting a further four inches of snow widely across the UK, with up to 15 inches possible for higher grounds in Scotland.

A fresh wave of snow is expected to arrive tonight with London and the South East likely to bear the brunt of it before it moves towards the North and West.
