Beauty Staple:
Pixie Geldof's Brunette Boy Crop

“I had my hair cut off when I was fifteen; It was really long up until then. I used to cut it myself at home all the time, and it just got shorter and shorter and, one day, I was like ‘this looks really bad,’ so I went and had it buzzed off.”

WHAT: “I had my hair cut off when I was fifteen; It was really long up until then. I used to cut it myself at home all the time, and it just got shorter and shorter and, one day, I was like ‘this looks really bad,’ so I went and had it buzzed off. I went to a men’s barbershop around the corner—because I thought ‘they’re going to do it better, aren’t they?’ When the guy first brought out the buzzer, I freaked out a bit. I thought, ‘Oh, this is a really bad decision.’ Afterward, I was like, ‘This is sick!’ And then I bleached it, too. For awhile, I looked like Eminem—it was great.”

WHERE: “I don’t color my hair anymore, but my friend Anthony Turner in New York cuts it whenever I come to New York or he comes to London—it’s not often! He first chopped it into its current style on a British Vogue shoot that we did together. It was on a beach and, at the time, my hair was kind of straggly. We looked at pictures of all those sixties girls—you know, the ones with the nice crops. That Edie Sedgwick sort of thing. Jean Seberg had really, really good hair, too, and it was very short. I wanted mine to be a boy cut, and she had really good boy hair. Now every time I wash it, I put on Ojon Rare Blend Oil. My hair is naturally curly and it flicks up a bit, so that tames it. It’s a hydrating thing. I just put it on when it’s wet and I comb it through.”

HOW: “With short hair, you literally have to change the way you dress. I used to wear boxers and baggy jeans and T-shirts. And now, if I wear that, I look insane. You have to wear slightly tighter things when you have short hair, be a bit more feminine. But I don’t like to wear anything too low-cut in the front either. I tend to wear a lot of turtlenecks, now that I have short hair.”

WHY: “I’m quite boy-ish. I like to roll around and get a bit messy. Short hair is easier.”
