Better Call Saul: The Breaking Bad prequel follows Saul Goodman

BETTER CALL SAUL season 3 cemented the Breaking Bad prequel’s position as one of the best shows on television. But will there be another series?

Will Better Call Saul return for season 4?

The Breaking Bad prequel has not yet been renewed by AMC, its US broadcaster, however creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are confident that there will be a fourth season four.

The writers put the delay in renewing the series down to “a little bit of reorganising” at Sony, which produces Better Call Saul and was also behind its parent show.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Gould said: “We now have a 10-year relationship with these two companies [Sony and AMC], which is something so special and rare in show business.”

When will Better Call Saul season 4 be released?

Gilligan told THR: “There will be a season four. The only question is when will it go on air.”

The first two seasons began in February 2015 and 2016 respectively, with the most recent run having started in April 2017.

We predict that season four will arrive in April 2018 at the earliest.

What will happen in Better Call Saul season 4?

Season three ended on a sombre note, with Chuck McGill appearing to commit suicide by setting his house on fire.

Gilligan and Gould have promised that the cliff-hanger isn’t “schmuck-bait”, seemingly confirming the lawyer’s demise.

Gould told THR: “Our show, we try to think about consequences, not about tricking the audience or hiding things to fool the audience.”

The duo conceded that they have not yet started writing the show’s fourth season, meaning that nothing is ruled out.

Better Call Saul: Chuck McGill appeared to commit suicide in the season three finale

Gilligan added that Chuck’s apparent death was necessary to move Better Call Saul towards the Breaking Bad timeline.

“The two shows are getting closer and closer into each other's orbits and it seemed like a fitting end — if it indeed is and it sure looks that way — it seemed to be a fitting ending, not a good ending or a happy ending, but fitting in terms of knowing where Jimmy McGill is heading as a character,” he said.

“He's going to become this morally calcified, really kinda unpleasant individual. How did he get there?”

With Jimmy’s elder law career over, it appears that his Saul Goodman persona is now on the horizon.

“I’m going to need a whole other business model when I get my licence back,” he told Kim after they closed the office.

Better Call Saul is available on Netflix.
