The New York Islanders (colloquially known as the Isles) are a professional ice hockey team based in Elmont, New York. The Islanders compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at UBS Arena.

Jonathan Joseph Ledecky (born February 9, 1958) is an American businessman and a co-owner of the NHL team New York Islanders and their AHL affiliate Bridgeport Islanders. New York City, U.S. His niece is multiple Olympic gold medalist swimmer Katie Ledecky.

Founded in 1972, the Islanders—based in Uniondale, New York, for their first 42 seasons—were named after the team's location on Long Island.
